One was the 'No Panty' shot of Jessica Rabbit, the other was some bit in Fantasia called the Sunflower child or something. It basically ran along the lines of black children and er...yeah won't go further.

I'd have to agree on this one.
Although Microsoft has a lot of filler to the overal design and packaging to the display box, isn't that what it's all about anyway? You could either go for aesthtics and be overly simplified, or have more practicality listing it's compatabilities.
Either way, it's the same reason why you have a cartoon character on cereal boxes, appeal to they eye a bit more.
