In case anyone didn't already know, Sarah Vowell did the voice of Violet in The Incredibles. I remember seeing an interview where she seemed genuinly confused that anyone would ask her to do voice acting.

Does anyone out there seriously find the size of an image to be such an incredible inconvenience that we have to actually CHANGE THE CONTENT of the image?
It may seem like a little thing until image cropping software makes a mob of rioters look like two people or removes an important person from the scene altogether because they were in the shadows.
In what way is this a good idea? Just because we can? What scares me most of all is that you can all see the potential for abuse and you don't care, in fact you can't wait for it.

It's a commentary that many but not most white people view african americans as being of closer relations to monkeys or chimps than they themselves are, based entirely on their physical characteristics. Additionally, the chimp in question brandishes a semi-automatic pistol commonly associated with thuggish activity portrayed frequently in the news and media as being encountered in low-income african american communities.
Although these elements point to the unfortunate implication that the contributor may be a racist who believes african americans are monkeys with guns, the most likely explanation is that this was simply the most appropriate image from those available for selection.
However, said contributor displays a lack of social sensitivity and a certain amount of naivety in his misinformed choice. In all likelihood, moderators will soon change the image as both a silent apology and to avoid further discussion.
