This just a simple student project, so clever story isn't the priority. The insane amount of labor it takes to make an animated short is enough to keep the maker(s) uninterested in spending too much time on the story planning phase. The desired scenes drive the project, and the story just shapes around them.
VFS sure has a name for itself these days. My girlfriend and I are past graduates (I was Film acting department).
