Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
Why...why the fuck is marijuana not legal? It's SOOO much better then alcohol.

YES, my question was rhetorical. I know that ignorant people and the fact that it is near impossible to tax is why it is pushed under the rug.

Also, I really like Ron Paul. He's too smart to be a republican and too genuine to be a democrat.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
What do you mean impossible to tax? There's no problem with that down here in Holland.

and yes it is sooo much better than alcohol. it's cheaper, doesn't cause a hangover, doesn't cause violence, doesn't destroy your liver nor a lot of braincells, has many medicinal uses and you don't get fat from smoking weed.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
Well, shit. If you crazy Dutch people have found a way to tax the stuff then WHAT THE FUCK IS THE HOLD UP? Legalize the shit, now!

Oh, I have to disagree with ya 'bout the pot not giving hangovers or making you fat. If you smoke enough, you WILL feel something the next day. Trust me, I live in the home of hydro: British Columbia. As for making you fat, pot and a fridge full of things to eat is a bad bad combo (thank Dog I have a good metabolism).

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
That hangover thing might be particular to your metabolism. I can smoke as much as I want in a given day and I feel great the next morning - no ill affects, yet enough of a lingering effect to take the edge off. That fades slowly and pleasantly.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
A pot hangover, for me, is really just a sense that my mind is on the other side of a tunnel. Hey...wait. That what being 'burnout' is. Hmmm. I guess that is the worst it gets.

Does burnout count as a hangover?

Clearly, you've never seen Reefer Madness.

Ya, I've never understood why it's illegal. It's far less damaging than even tobacco. It's use is so widespread in America, I really can't grasp why the government wouldn't be leaping at the chance to enable corporations to sell it so they could get a piece of the pie like with alcohol and tobacco.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
It's illegal because the original intent on it was that it had no medical qualities, same reason coke and heroine were also made illegal. Of course we later find out it is very useful for medical purposes but the U.S. would think it has lost something if it declared the war on drugs bullshit.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
I doubt marijuana will ever be legalized in the near future. Most politicians won't support legalization and usually evade the subject. It's probably because legalization would have an unpredictable negative impact, social and economic, that would involve the tobacco industry the most (just plant new seeds and package and market em just like cigarretes).

Honestly, the best hope you can ask for is that marijuana possession offenses be moved to misdemeanor charges. But that's probably unlikely because that'd make growing and trafficking a misdemeanor too.

Canada is way ahead of the US in this area. Sure, our government may be retarded crooks, but at least they don't punish the casual user. Why doe the US have to be so bloody strict in this area? Didn't they learn jack shit from their BS prohibition?

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
In Ann Arbor, Michigan, possession of marijuana has been decriminalized since 1972, and is considered a civil infraction. First offense is a $25 fine, second offense is a $50 fine, further offenses will net you a $100 fine. I'm not sure what the penalty is for trafficking.

They've got lots of interesting laws in Ann Arbor, actually. If abortion ever becomes illegal, Ann Arbor has an ordinance that will come into effect, under which abortion would be punishable by a $5 fine. The legality of this ordinance is questionable, but props to Ann Arbor for sticking it to the man.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
Interesting. I didn't know that.

What a sad day it would be if abortion became illegal. What a stupid fucking law to make, regardless of whether you believe in it. If 'pro-lifers' (pfft) had their way, there would be more grief in the US: more unemployed, more uneducated people, more desperate and stupid faith seekers, a higher division of rich and poor, less womans rights etc etc. Who knows just what it would do to the economy. Who the fuck will pay for all these mothers to have kids they don't want and cannot support? Guess, they will want to immigrate North where laws are - for the most part - less medieval.

However, if apportion is made illegal, I know I'll be getting fellow Canadians together, grabbing signs and heading south to fight it. Which says a lot because I'm really not the protesting type. Though, it would be better than my first impulse: burning churches.

Re: Ron Paul Talks about Marijuana
I'm straightedge and I think it should be legalized. I'm glad he said it because usually people make all the wrong arguments. It's constitutional, and has medicinal uses which are being denied to the public. Its abolition also just creates more violence.

-Marijuana is the largest cash crop in 10 US states.

-Yearly drug trafficking earnings average to around $60 billion, and range as high as $100 billion.
