Keep in mind, 80% income tax rate but cradle to grave care in return. The only problem being that to grab a beer with a friend at a pub, you'll part with $50. The only items that are covered are necessities. I've got a little bit of a problem with socialism. Still, a 5.

I looked up the income tax for Norway and found it to be around %50.

Yes, I pulled an exaggerated number out of my ass. Not intended to be factual, but thanks for going through the effort of researching the truth.

Personal income tax caps at just over 54%. But don't for get VAT of 13% on food and 25% on other materials. Pretty close to 80%, eh?

I strongly, strongly recommend "The Fair Tax Book," by Neal Boortz, for more information on this. It's amazing, but we really do pay far more in taxes as individuals than most people realize.

...In America, that is. Forgot for a moment that this is an international forum.

As products of highly Individualist societies, I think we're all programmed from a very early age to have a bit of a problem with Socialism.

I am in fact half Norwegian so I was happy when I found this clip. Because while watching "Sicko" I kept waiting and waiting for Norway to pop up.

What percent of your income is taken for taxes?

But what happens when a prisoner doesn't wish to reform and takes a chainsaw to the whole dam place, or even gasoline and a match?
The health care systems seems nice, but I'd like to see what the actual tax rate is. Found this on WikiPedia, not sure how recent though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rates_around_the_world
Personal is 28%-54%. Very Communist looking to me. >.>

There are definitely nicer places than the US, but I wouldn't want to live there. Well, I would, but that's because I'm an intellectual, and we like peace and quiet. We wouldn't mind living in a huge ass library. But suburban contentment is nothing to brag about, they have no crime because everyone is familiar with everyone else. They have no poverty because everyone has found their place. Everywhere you look, there are people taking their life for granted, but that's true for every country... I can't imagine the kind of entirely trivial and idealistic issues that the Norwegian government tackles, though. Over here, we've got ignorance, violence, and racism, but that's nice, too, in its own way.

Really interesting-- could be a great example for other countries. Unfortunately it was done by Micheal Moore so there is no way to know which parts are truth and which parts are totaly inaccurate.
Since I have no idea which parts are accurate l usally avoid trying to draw any conclusions based on Moore's documentaries-- I enjoy it the same way I would fiction.

Re: Scene left out of "Sicko" one more country
they can do it because they care about each other enough to allow the government to reallocate their income to serve the public good. but i'm sure having massive crude oil reserves and stern limits on immigration doesn't hurt
