Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
On Tuesday’s Hardball, CBS contributor Nancy Giles and the NY Times’ Paul Krugman discussed the Democrats’ inability to stop the occupation of Iraq and their apparent fear of confronting the worst president in our history.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
How gutless they are.
In the end, they both try to justify the democrats NOT doing what they said they were going to, , , because it (defunding) could be spun negatively against them.
Real leadership has to have the balls to do what they promised even if it can be spun negatively.
Personally, I am all for war in Iraq and I think Iran needs an ass whuppin too. BUT, if I had voted for a rep who promised to end the war, and then they wouldn't vote to defund it "because it could be spun negatively" I would feel like I had been gulled out of my vote by a conman.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
I find your world views so mind-numbingly interesting. With which troops should the US unilaterally whoop Iran's ass with? Call up some more National Guard and Reserves? Extend deployments to 24 months? And what if Iran's National Guard has a can of that ass-whupping in store for our [tired and depleted] troops?
You seem to forget the power of the veto and that this lame duck refuses to let the Iraq occupation end on his watch. No matter how many US citizens get killed. Coalition troops? He claimed 36 countries in his national address from the Oval Office a couple of months ago. The truth is only 24, with nine of those other countries having less than six troops in Persia. Nice try.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Quick... name two countries with a record of more UN resolution violations than Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Can you? I can, Israel and the good old US of A.
Good thing you're not of any consequence to draft my ass or anyone else's. Yet another clown who likes to think himself important. Real brave behind that keyboard, pal. How tough are you elsewhere?

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Who cares ? How many dictatorships and Juntas get a vote in the general assembly ? Most of the general assembly regimes are strongman type governments.
I'm just as important as you are, "clown".

Obviously YOU cared enough to respond.
Adios. I wish there was a killfile for kind folks like you here. Sadly there isn't. So I can just ignore you from this point forward. Have a nice day.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
At 3:20 Krugman called the Democrat's actions (or lack thereof) "unforgivable." I think that is a pretty strong statement against them ;-)

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Also, Krugman said, "no excuses. People are dying as they (the Dems) drop the ball." That is pandering to the Dems if I ever heard it. *snark*

Either way, Krugman could teach ferrets to imitate weasels, and Dylan sucked.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Dylan sucked, eh? This is why just about ever modern musician with talent considers him a huge influence. President Bill Clinton owns all of his albums and bootlegs because he sucks. Yeeea.
Also, I hope that Krugman will be the next Economic Advisor in the white house. He is a rebel with a conscience.

His voice was a shitty instrument.
Who needs to hear cats strangled all day even if he is a good songwriter and arranger. If he was really good, he would have had a good singer do his part.

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
and Krugman, as I said, could teach ferrets to imitate weasels. He is part of the problem atthe NYT and why their credibility has dropped 50% in the last decade. He loses when confronted in a debate and thats why he looks so damn shifty. His furtive rodent like gaze is always sweeping for the next thing that will roll by and call him on his bullshit. Tucker Carlson busted him on Maher just a week or two ago and he came out looking like the hypocrite schill that he is.

No, not that bastion of impartiality Tucker Carlson? Say it isn't so!

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
I have a friend Ron, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is very fond of quoting a particular quip of Mark Twain's. I think in this case, it's completely apropos:
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig.
And of course, in Iowa, they know a lot about pigs.

"Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception."

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Here's the skinny, more people have died in car accidents this year than have died in Iraq since the start of the war. Hope that puts things in perspective and yeah, we do need to kick Iran's ass.

I guess the millions of Iraqi refugees and murder victims do not count in that statistic. Don't their matter count, too?

"Nor do I take into account a danger of starting a chain reaction of a scope great enough to destroy part or all of the planet...But it is not necessary to imagine the earth being destroyed like a nova by a stellar explosion to understand vividly the growing scope of atomic war and to recognize that unless another war is prevented it is likely to bring destruction on a scale never before held possible, and even now hardly conceived, and that little civilization would survive it."

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
"In essence, the conflict that exists today is no more than an old-style struggle for power, once again presented to mankind in semireligious trappings. The difference is that, this time, the development of atomic power has imbued the struggle with a ghostly character; for both parties know and admit that, should the quarrel deteriorate into actual war, mankind is doomed. Despite this knowledge, statesmen in responsible positions on both sides continue to employ the well-known technique of seeking to intimidate and demoralize the opponent by marshaling superior military strength. They do so even though such a policy entails the risk of war and doom. Not one statesman in a position of responsibility has dared to pursue the only course that holds out any promise of peace, the course of supranational security, since for a statesman to follow such a course would be tantamount to political suicide."

Re: Hardball: Paul Krugman & Nancy Giles
Everyone knows just because someone smart thinks something that makes it true. Unfortunately not everyone on the world understands reasonable discussion. Some people must be beaten forcefully. No not all cultures are equal. Some are oppressive, some are permissive. Yes, the US has International interests. Sometimes these interests run afoul of cultures who do not agree with our philosophy. At this point, ass must be beaten, and beaten well.
