I think question-asking guy sort of has a point- especially since Kevin Smith replied in such an unoriginal and dull way.

Kevin Smith gets panned for not making films outside View Askewniverse but when he made Jersey Girl he got panned for that and told that he should stick to the Jay and Bob movies, kind of a lose/lose right? Firstly I think Smith answered it well, giving the sensible answer and then giving the guy shit. The guys taking time out to come and answer questions and some guy acts like a dick? Come on, Smith's attack was more than justified. I love it when smartarses get verbally smacked down like that.

I think "question guy" should keep his smart ass opinions too himself until he manages to create a career for himself in one of the toughest industries in the world by simply making the movies he wants to make.

Why should he make original movies with new characters? Let him do what he wants, IMO. I think its fun to see the same cast in his movies. Even if they can't act.

How old is Kevin Smith? Kind of immature if you ask me. He should be able to take that kind of criticism and just brush it off. Obviously he was trying to prove to that guy, and to the audience, that he is not a loser, but stooping to that guys level not only shows hes insecure but proves that he somewhat believes what that guy said.
A true professional would have said, you know not everyone loves my films, and thats ok, but they can all just eat me! ;p The rest of his answer was just excessive bullying. Ill bet no one else will ask him those kinds of questions again :), that much he did.

Agreed, Lvalue. Although, I haven't seen any indication on any level that Kevin Smith isn't immature.
His movies are most popular with douche bag teenage stoners and people that think words like "Fartknocker" are ****ing hysterical. The writing reminds me of something my friends and I thought was epic when we were 16.
Not to mention that when he isn't being immature and childish, he goes the opposite extreme and becomes "sophisticated" and pretentious. Basically, Kevin Smith is a blundering asshole.
When he start ripping on the dude's lack of girlfriend, man boobs and whatever else he could spit out on limited wit (see any Smith movie for reference) I wanted to punch him in the mouth.
But the real irony here, is an argument over nerdiness at a god damn comic convention.
Awesome.

The smartass deserved it. And you could tell Kevin Smith was more having fun than he was being mean. The guy who asked the question was laughing, so whatever. I enjoyed it.
