I dont see why not. he's still in the field when he shoots and noone's touching the net.

would a point be taken off as it went up the net first then a point back, because it went back through, effectively scoring zero ?

It doesn't look like it went up the net. I think the net catches it, causing the ball to loop up and over the rim, then go down through the hoop.
