I did a spreadsheet up for the last one we had called Tower defense, but this one is a lot more complex because it has splash damage which is hard to calculate.

Well in that case post some real ending scores so we can compare with each other and strategize some better layouts for the bonus stages.

i got 2275 total at the end of bonus 3. I had 6 double upgraded fires, 4 rockets and 4 lv3 upgraded cannons, i also had lv 1 water towers doing a zone defense, it kept some of the fast waves under control.

I started with a single cannon that i upgraded immediately to cannon lv 3. When the first cannon seemed lacking i built a second at the second bend. Once i could upgrade i went right for fire. then water, and last earth(useless). Once i could make rockets i only made rockets and water towers.

3154, I had 3300, but for some reason selling and buying seems to do weird things to your score. I actually seemed to lose score and I shouldn't. You lose score when a creep passes, but only their gold value, at the bonus levels each is worth 5, so at most I should have lost about 100.

There is a definite bug in selling.
Selling a level 1 arrow tower netted me 26 GP, but selling a level 2 arrow tower netted me a loss of 5 GP.

Don't use rockets
4512 not using rocket towers. Instead of taking earth, I took a second interest upgrade to 20%. Screenshot before wave 4, and screenshot when I died during wave 4.
Also, upgrade a tower inbetween levels, even if its just a water tower. The 2-5 pieces of gold you'll lose by not getting it in interest are worth it. In the bonus levels I noticed everytime I upgraded a tower, I got like 150 score for it, but only the first time.

Flash TD: Bonus Levels
Hi. I registered just so that I could make this post. I have been playing this game for almost 2 days now. It is so addicting!

I can get half way through bonus level 5, but it's too hard, so far. (I'd like to share my video that I posted on youtube, but I haven't read the rules yet, so I'll hold off).

I also want to give some pointers. Don't use the first or third towers, at all. You lose gold off of them. What I mean, is that for Air+Land tower, it costs 7 gold, but yields only 6 damage. The Air Only only helps you in 3 levels, so why use it? Lastly, the Cannon is your best bet in first few waves. It costs 9 gold, and yields 9 damage.

When you upgrade the cannon, it costs 15g and adds 15dmg, so there again, you get same amount of damage for the gold you spend, not to mention the splash it adds. That's FREE splash!

The Arrow tower's upgrade costs 13g but adds only 10dmg, and zero splash. (The range increase is only 10% too)

When you get your first wood, get the fire tower power. They cost only 50g and yield 75dmg and more splash. (and upgrades: 75g>100d | 100g>175d | 150g>100d) The last upgrade is 'iffy' if you ask me. You lose damage, but still gain splash.

Crying shame that once you click to build a tower, you cannot, in any way, get rid of the build mode without building-- Although the between-level infinite pause reduces the sense of urgency.

As far as I can tell, some tactics from last time still hold-- Namely, that one tower is worthless. The Air Only tower is absolutely abyssmal, and the cannon is OK in small numbers-- start with 2 fully upgraded Arrow towers, near the top left corner-- give them the best coverage you can, and realize that their range goes up a touch on the upgrade. Follow up with a cannon on the first horizontal bend, upgrade ASAP for splash damage. First wood to Water, for slow, Second to fire, because earth is TERRIBLE, and earth third for Rocket Towers, which should be upgraded swiftly to allow you to survive to bonus 3 at least (I have gotten to, but never survived, Bonus 4)
We could use more Earth Testing, some Income-boost-before-water testing, etc soon.

water upgrade gives NO damage boost - just splash damage - I have NO idea how those people on the "top" board got so high up, I had a three tear tower (two of them) and tons of fire-towers.. could not make it far enough.
Rock tower.. is too slow, damage is great, sure- and I've never upgraded it. I agree, no point in air tower - I stuck with pure fire and that worked out / somewhat ok, but the water is a must - the extra splash... not sure how that "helps"

The extra splash makes sure that even if the enemy group is 'fast' that all of them get slowed eventually-- also, when enemies overlap, splash gets them all easy and quick, no fuss no muss-- just slow friggin critters.

Admittedly, third upgrade is pointless as you use firing speed like a mother, but Fire gets moderately nice-- although after Wave21, it should be Water, Fire and Rockets till kingdom come

Cheating. Hacking flash game high scores is the ultimate e-penis booster. Given that your score is the amount of gold you've spent + what you have, your score is actually based on how far you get in the game. At bonus 3 (only 5 bonus levels) you're score is around 2050 give or take. To beat it. Unless they're giving out 1000+ per creep in the last bonus level, its just not happening. Even then it'd be a stretch.

Pretty much, unless beating Bonus 5 causes some kind of pinball-esque multiplier to trip off (xX where X is Y, Y being... who the f*ck knows, maybe number of maxxed rocket towers), in which case they are feasible-- otherwise, those scores are bullshit writ large.

My apology for double posting, but WAIT-- The score is Current+ SPENT? Because if that is the case, spending most of Bonus 3 breaking down and rebuilding towers at near-macro-enabled speed could get you pretty high up there.

No. At the end of bonus 2, with a score of about 1700, even if you sold everything and built it back up, it wouldn't really help. You'd run out of money long before you reached 45000. You only get a 75% return, and while at first thats like 1275, it drops to 956 then under 750, etc. You might be able to hit 5000-6000 with that method but not 45000.

Don't get earth till last
I've discovered you can easily survive to level 28 (the last time you get a wood) without using rocket towers. Order should be:
Water -> Fire -> interest -> Earth
to maximize your score. Don't buy ahead of time so you get bonus on interest. I'm at level 28 with 5 water towers and 3 fire towers:Breakdown
Level 3 fire - 1
Level 2 fire - 2
Level 2 water - 3
level 3 water - 2
I had 2 level 2 arrow towers and a level 2 cannon and level 3 cannon to get me through the early bit.

and the best score I got was about 2500 and change in bonus 4 today. There is a problem with the targeting of the towers. About half the time for some reason they don't target the lead creep which means they'll waste time pounding on a guy who's got all day to get to the end, and ignore the guy who could be killed in 1 pop and is about to cross the line. It really needs to be fixed so that they target the creep closest to the end if they're in their range. Realistically I probably could have done a bit better as I would have killed a few more before they crossed the line and possibly survived to the last level.
Fire becomes pointless at bonus levels past 1. 400 damage (which costs a lot to upgrade) takes too many shots to kill one. Unless you're going to create some sort of massive spot where you've got like a dozen water towers and pile of fire towers so that you can basically hit all of them at once. But thats too hard and doesn't work well against level 30 which is immune and fast.

2576 so far. had like 15 left at the end of Bonus 4.

4 lv2 Rockets, in the middle, 8 double upgrade fires. on an angle in the middle and along the right side.
Also 2 cannons, which i always start with. a single cannon can make it to lv 4

9305. I don't know how any more could be achieved without cheating or using some exploit.

I'll take some screenshots, but a few general tips:

- Minimize buying. The money you don't spend gets interest, which makes later purchases easier, and reduces the amount you may have to sell (a real money loser).

- Towers with splash damage should ideally hit creeps when they are turning a corner. They naturally bunch up there.

- Spacing level 2 water towers so their shots don't overlap will cause creeps to bunch up.

- Arrow towers are pretty much useless for the long haul, because they just don't do enough damage.

- I never purchased an Air tower. I used the first tree upgrade for fire towers, and used a level two fire tower to ward off the first air attack.

- There is an exploit that will allow you to build towers that partially overlap. Place a second tower partially over the first, with the mouse cursor on empty land, and click. This is useful in the bonus stages, to maximize the use of the center.

- I don't think it's possible to beat all the bonus stages without rocket towers.

and I see an immediate issue with that attempting it. You get killed with fast creeps in level 6. I'm already down to 14 health with a level 2 and 3 cannon.

I upgraded both to level 3 for the fast creeps. You could alternately place the second cannon in the T-junction space so it will hit the creeps coming in, midway, and going out, but you will inevitably wait for the creeps to go all the way through, and I wasn't feeling patient.

Actually didn't end up too bad, though my score is much lower than yours. 7409 a bit strange. I didn't lose another life I had a fair number of turrets in the middle. Maybe 15 all upgraded

I just got 6901, and I'm interested in seeing if I can't do better.

I never purchased any upgrade other than Fire and interest. I made it to Bonus Stage 4, at which point I was defeated.

I did not sell off any of my buildings, so if that boosts your score, I could have had higher.

I just went with a ton of Fire buildings fully upgraded and that was that...

A side note, I found you can make the game work improperly if it's in a window not in the front. The game goes slower for firing and moving, but not releasing the creeps, so you end up with a huge clump, letting you splash them to death very easily.

I would recommend upgrading water and earth, if only for the rocket towers. The water towers are also nice, for getting creeps to bunch up.

Also, if you have buildings that aren't doing anything, selling them off will increase your score, because you have more gold in the bank at the end of each round.

Upgraded in this order: fire, interest, water, earth.

The scoring is based on how much gold you have in the bank at the end of each round. In this game, I had as much as 7000 in the bank before I bought all the rocket towers. A sneaky tactic in this case, is to sell off unnecessary towers right before the round ends.

I'm tapping out at this point, because I don't see how to get any higher without cheating. Anyway, a few more revelations:

- You can beat bonus level 5 with just fire towers, so the other 3 upgrades here were for interest. The splash damage counts for more than I originally gave it credit for.

- The gold penalty for losing citizens isn't that bad, compared to the point loss for building more than you need. Hence I finished with 3 citizens.

- You don't get any points for beating bonus level 5, so don't build up for that level unless you just want to beat it.

- The best place to build is right next to the entrance/exit, because you hit creeps on three passes.
