Anyone who understands what this image represents, is forever changed by it."

Re: Hubble Deep Field
I gave it extra points for Numa Numa, and also for the line "We'll miss you, Pluto."

Re: Hubble Deep Field
Makes me feel so small. Just like an insignificant speck of nothing.

Re: Hubble Deep Field
it's almost frightening to think of how insignificant we are on our own planet let alone the entire galaxy

Re: Hubble Deep Field
Well, the very consequence of what you see there is that humanity or better said the existence itself is something that we do not share... Although we know that the universe must be filled with places like ours does not make our world or existence any smaller or less significant. Why? Because it is all we got... Within our existence the knowledge of what you just saw does not have a single influence on the fate of it.
So if you think these facts make us small and insignificant, it is just the wrong conclusion... In fact it shows us that what we have, is so precious and unique that we should value it more than we do. And although this widens our view on where we seem to stand and what we seem to have in the universe, it helps us focus on the existence itself… because in the very consequence, it is all we will ever have…

Re: Hubble Deep Field
i tend to disagree, mostly because as i understand it, most cultures on earth are centered around a belief in god, especially the monotheistic religions. ideas and perceptions are built around a world created for us by a god. mind you the size of the universe alone does not say a god didnt create us, but it really does make it harder to believe. so my thought is, when you change the fundamental belief in a culture, its bound to fall apart, or at least change a great deal

Re: Hubble Deep Field
Methinks you're a tad confused. The Hubble Ultra Deep Field and Deep Field images are not only possible, but they really were taken. Or were you referring to actually going out there and seeing these stars first hand and finding life? While I admit that it's highly unlikely to happen during our lifetime, or even our children's or grandchildren's lifetimes, one day we will know for sure, that we are not alone.
