I can answer that statement!
It wasn't. There's a similar sketch about airline pilots, where a Scotsman (Eric Idle) walks into the cockpit and states "There's a bomb on this airplane, I'll tell you where it is for a pound".
Then there's another one where a very polite man (Michael Palin) walks into the cockpit and hijacks an airliner heading for Cuba... he wants it to land on some sleepy English town, can't remember the name.
And that's about it for Python sketches in cockpits.
