Re: Super Size Me
Does anyone feel like following me here with some serious arguments pertaining to a horrible troll of a thought ?
What can we expect in the way of overall, statistical effects of Americans being so (overweight -- scratch the polical correctness) FAT ?
Is the rest of the world to rejoice that the increasingly averagedly stupid and belligerent american people are going to die out earlier ? Or should it instead be feared that gradual realization of a shortened lifespan will lead to even more extreme "don't care about the consequences, I'm gunna die anyway" sort of behaviour ?
Just a thought. And not one meant to be nasty, either : I know a great number of Americans more than agree with my premices here, however "unpatriotic" the (censored) others would like them to think they are.

Re: Super Size Me
My fear is not so much the increasing number of overweight americans, as well as the rest of the world, in which McDonalds and other fast food places have invaded the land, but the toxins that are in the food, which was making him ill in the movie.

Re: Super Size Me
Extreme weight gain, wildly fluctuating levels of sugar in the blood stream, and hypertension from massive amounts of salt were making him sick.
"Toxins", shame on you for using an alternative medicine buzzword, have their effects on a much longer scale, often by ruining DNA transcription in our cells, essentially making one's rate of aging speed up by double digit percentage points. Anyway, the kind of stuff he'd get out of McDonalds food is honestly probably no higher than the stuff in "normal" factory farmed food.
What he's trying to point out in the film is not the obvious truth that the diet is unhealthy per se. He's pointing out the base stupidity of the McDonalds commercials which claim that their food is wholesome and completely super nice for you and your family. McDonlalds commercials said in spirit that one could live off of the average meals that people buy there.
