Baby Got Book
Christian remake of Sir Mix-A-Lot's classic rap, "Baby Got Back".

"I like big Bibles I can not lie, / You Christian brothers can’t deny, / When a girl walks in with a KJV* / And a bookmark in proverbs, You get stoked" * King James Version

Re: Baby got Book
All those people who are just dissing this video for being christian have no idea what there talking about. All hes talking about is he wants a girl who reads the bible and isnt a surface christian who doesnt go to church or read her bible but calls herself a christian. Yes Im a christian and proud of it. Christian morals are some of the best ones out there. dont steal, done lie, honor you father and mother. how is there anything bad about that. There are only 2 religions that say if you dont believe in theres your going to go somewhere bad: Christianity and Judaism. Both are 1 in the same the only difference really is Jewish people dont believe that Jesus Christ is God's son. now if you look at it that way being christian i have a 50% chance of not going to a bad place, all other religions ether have you going no ware or reincarnation or everyone goes to the same place. And over 67% of people in the world call themselfs christian. The Bible is the world best seller and is the most historicaly accurate book to date. Yes i may not be able to have sex before im married, but thats the price ill have to pay for being able to spend all eternity with God, Jesus Christ, and the holy spirit and have the time of my after-life. Faced with these statistics its a wonder that every one in the world isnt a christian.

dude, your wretched grammar and atrocious spelling are an inescapable testament to the dearth of your intellectual capabilities. Learn to construct a coherent sentence before you attempt any sort of reasonable defense of your religious beliefs. Under the circumstances, I'm afraid you merely come across as an uneducated jack@ss, which unfortunately underscores the conclusions of many scientific sociological studies which demonstrate that religious zealotry and low IQ/brain damage are inextricably intertwined.

Re: Baby got Book
As a psychology major, let me be the first to ask you to cite source for these 'studies' you mention (I won't be holding my breath). Actually, some that have been widely publicized are the results of studies on prayer/meditation, which show them to have healing effects, and the Neilsen poll which states that 85% of the world population believes in a higher power. Wow. Given those stats (and you can turn them up with a cursory web search), your sweeping statements kind of make you look like an uneducated jackass. (You don't need the @ sign: jackass isn't a curse word. You'll get the tuition fee by email.) What's always amusing to me is why you intelligent atheists never seem to have much of a life. I mean, why else would you hang around forums like this trying to prove to others the NON-EXISTENCE of something? Don Quixote had nothing on you. But hey, you're always good for as laugh. This was great!

why's it always have to be where ever shit's falling apart that you morons want us to move to? how about this:

'if you dont like it, move to europe or japan or austrailia or canada or really just about any developed country depending on your cultural preferences. one thing to consider would be the language difference. that's probably going to be the biggest thing. maybe take a few classes on the native language to ease the transition. another option would be telling me to just fuck off and stop acting like i own this country or that everyone here holds the same beliefs as me, because i'm really just being extremely silly, arent i?'

"get your religion out of my comedy" means I disapprove of blatant religious propaganda under the guise of comedy. That's not comedy to me. By way of popular opinion, (and thank the good lord Jesus effn Christ), that's not comedy to M&C. So take your eff'n weak car wreck excuse for humor and get the eff out of M&C.

I don't think so (see definition of Propoganda fuckwit) If this was propoganda they have failed miserably. I am pretty sure you will find this was an in-joke for other Christians (they have a sense of humour too I am sure). I'm also sure you will find Christians would be smarter in finding other propoganda methods other than parodying a low class hip hop song which they knew would be torn to shreds and have the piss taken out of.

Here it is-plain and simple: Jesus is Lord. if u r denying this, u iether dont want to hear this, or u dont no. In John 3:16 it says "for GOD so loved the world he gave his one and only son(jesus) so that whoever believes in him shall not perish(in hell) but will have eternal life(in heaven). if u believe that, then u got it going. ur going 2 heaven. im sorry 2 say, but, budah wont get u ther. or whoevr the muslim guy is. GOD, JESUS, is true, real. the end of times (talks about what is 2 come in Revalations) is coming. if u r not ready, u will be left out. u will go 2 hell.im sorry 2 be so harsh, but all u dissing on GOD, u will be judged at the end times.we all will. but if u dont believe that jesus is true and believe wat he said, thats it.ur done. it says that all have sined and fallen short of the glory of GOD. so, simply put, he all have sinned, but if u believe in jesus and ask for forgiveness, u will be forgiven.
and for whoevr said jesus is baloney, im sorry, but, like i said, u will be judged by the KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS, THE MESSIAH. JESUS. THE CHRIST. |

Ok... um... it was funny for all of 15 seconds...then it got preachy.
My summation.
Close-mindedness + Proselytising
+ Weak Humor = Dumb

The only way this could be a 10 on the dumb scale is if instead of the sad Vanilla Ice Wanna-Be rapping the song would be if it was Jerry Falwell was rapping it.

I hope someone takes the song re-works it, and totally rips on it South Park style making it a true parody of intrusive proselytising and not a promotion of proselytizing one religion (and its "Holy Book" over all other religions of the world...

To Clarify
look up the definition of *proselytise*

I'm tolerant,respectful and usually accepting of all relegions/spiritual paths/philosophies.

What I don't respect is intrusive wanna-be fundamentalist,quasi-fundamentalist or full fundamentalist methods that use various "in-your-face" methods to *proselytize* their religion to others. Even if meant as "humor".
IMO it's pretty pathetic to "rap" that reading the bible will get you "respect" and "girlies". That would be a stupid reason to read a bible or convert to a judeo-christian relegion...

I can ignore things i don't like or do not agree with, but me and others still HEAR it. I watched and heard the music video. So how could I not hear it? I'm not some robot that can turn off my hearing.

It's ok to have pride in your faith/religion/or whatever, and it's ok preach to others if those people are actually interested or are the same religion as the "preacher".
But not everyone shares the same religion. And not everyone cares or gives a dang about the bible or another person's religion....

Why can't some people keep their religion to themselves? Instead of shoving it in others faces??? I'll respect their beliefs if they can respect my religion and my spiritual beliefs as well, wether they be Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, Atheist, ETC....

Please stop proselytising about proselytising. I find your views on proselytising offensive. I tried to ignore your post on proselytising but I saw it and read it, so how could I not see it? I'm not some robot that can turn off my vision.

Its okay to have an opinion on proselytising, and to share it, if others are actually interested in hearing about your narrow views on freedom of speech. But not everyone is about losing their freedoms, and not everyone gives a dang about proselytising or your political/religious views.

Why can't some people keep their opinions to themselves intead of shoving it in other peoples faces???

IOW...deal with it!

You might as well keep you jabs quick and baseless. Chances are, they havent read a word of what you said. Probably because they think satan is speaking through you or something. However, if you were to type something like... "whatever, go hagn yersef and dye r4t commie christian Nazi" You save time and you feel better knowing that you made some morons day a little gloomier. openmindedness
this life is nothing compared to eternity. this is an idea that goes for most any religion. not wanting to convert someone to your belief when it means so much would be like letting someone burn in a house they didn't know was on fire. the most ignorant people are those that don't understand this significance and pass religion off as simple opinion. further, it is not narrowminded to say your belief is the only way because saying anything else would contradict your core beliefs in the case of most religions, even the ones that pretend to be openminded.

Re: openmindedness
Part of that didnt make sense. The part with the fire... and the hoops. I didnt get it. I am assuming that when you say "eternity" you are reffering to eternal life. If eternal live dosent make sense to me (after looking at it from all angles) then why would I even bother? If I have accepted the fact that one day I will die and no longer exist, why should I seek out a diety to GUILT me sensless for doing things I enjoy doing? I say, if you believe your way is the only way, you are unwilling to understand other points of view, you are making narrow minded judgments.

For the love of "what ever higher power you choose to beleive in" !!!

I'm not asking or even remotely trying to coercively convert anyone to my views at all. I am only expressing my own point of view per first ammendment rights.

I did NOT write anything to remotely imply "you better believe what I say and believe or something bad going to happen to you!" I NEVER evern implied that. Please look uo the definition of "proselytise".
I was not saying "proseltyizing" is is neccasarily "wrong"; only that INTRUSIVE methods of proselytizing was.

It is INAPPROPRIATE to proselytize in an COERCIVE and Intrusive manners&methods (even that music video is subtly COERCIVE In my opinion (hinting that reading to bible will make you attractive to cute girls, which is unrealistic and dumb IMO).

Its ok to *ask politely* "may I speak with you about *insert religion here* " A truely KIND and RESPECTFUL person would respect the person's answer if they say "No" and/or LEAVE the person alone if they ignore you...

If I was given a dollar for everytime I saw a person trying to say to a teen, an adult, a tourist, a peaceful Goth or Punker *minding their own business* that some person they don't know comes up to them saying they " better believe in and love asked to be saved by 'So And So' or they are going to 'The Bad Place'!!! "
I'd have about $8~$15 by now...

I respect any and all religions (some I just tolerate) and *subjective* opinions as long as a person respects the religion and informed opinions of others .

Re: Baby Got Book
I'm not dissing any religions, I'm questioning the appropriatness of the music video's message it is conveying which seem to me to be "read the bible, it will get you a girlfriend" which IMO is bullcrud.
I'll quote form one mr. Booley, I concur:
"There Are So Many Good Things About Christianity.
NONE fo which are evident from listening to the people who proclaim thier "CHRISTIAN VALUES" the loudest.

Jesus spoke a lot about helping the poor and needy, forgiving each other, turning the other cheek... In the Bible you can find lots of pasages that command it's followers to protect the land, let it lie fallow, and to forgive debts.
I can find passage after pasage that argued for social justice and treating each other with love and compassion.

If Republican "Christian" politicos were putting out laws to promote these kinds of things, I would happily get behind it....

Instead, they push laws that promote bigotry and keeping certain classes from being equal. They promote ignorance and conformity. They want to let prosetlizers commit spiritual predation, catching people at thier most vulnerable becuase that's when they are most easily brainwashed.

Meanwhile they activly oppose the true moral positions evident in the teachings of Jesus.

Rather then writing laws based on the good things about Christianity, they push legislation promoting it's worst and most hyppocritical exceses, and then have the gal to proclaim that they repesent "Christian" values.

No wonder so many people are atheists or convert to other religions. "

Re: Baby Got Book
You're right in your assertion that many Republican ideals are contrary to Jesus' commands. But a significant reason that Republicans have so much backing is that in most issues, they take the moral high ground. Bear in mind I'm not saying they are perfect or flawless, but compared with the values espoused by Democrats (the big one being abortion), if the general American Christian has to pick between the two based on moral grounds, he/she will probably pick the Republican.

Re: Baby Got Book
Does it scare you that the prospects for the GOP are rather dim then? The US is getting less Christian daily. And less white as well.

Please don't think that I oppose everything red. For example, less government interference. Whoops, Teri Schiavo. Less government spending. Whoops, record budget deficits. I just oppose hypocrites.
[ Reply ] [ Flag ] [ Root ] [ Thread ]
Re: Baby Got Book
As did Jesus. And nah, I don't think the prospects for the GOP are dim (btw, I never professed loyalty for either party in my previous post). Judging by the recent presidential election, the prospects are good for them.

The US may be getting less Christian, you're right, but the competition will still be there: there's plenty of hypocrites around to elect the GOP, and plenty of flat out heathens to elect the Democrats.

Just a sad, sad situation. I desperately wish for a party that supported many of the Republican "moral" views and the Democratic economic views. As a WASP Republican, why wouldn't you want to support the poor, as Jesus would have? As a bleeding heart, why would you advocate a mother's "right" over a child's right to live? It's all senseless and contradictory to the character of Christ as revealed in the Bible. As a Christian, I'd vote for the party that encompassed the Christian aspects of both parties. Until then, I choose not to vote.

Re: Baby Got Book
btw, i too concur to those lines you quoted mr booley of.

i don't think the vid was meant to be taken literally, "read the bible, it will get you a girlfriend."
which if it were, would be ridiculous.

but it is a sir-mix-alot song. it was meant to be a humourous look at a christian habit, reading the Bible, by a christian. he knew the connotiations of the original song and just meant to take it to emphasize the song's irony.

solid christian guys are likely to want to be involved with a solid christian girl more likely than someone who isn't. solid sikh guys are likely to want to be involved with a solid sikh girl more so than someone who isn't. cause they share their beliefs that they hold dear to them to help them to "grow in their spiritual life. "
nothing wrong with that if That is the message that you got from the vid.

what i thought would offend people the most is in this vid, the message that the bigger your bible is, the "holier" you are which wasn't the intention either. the guy is just a christian making fun of an extreme view of christianity, which i don't think is particularly christian.

let's just leave it that it was made for christians, and those who aren't are jsut going to have a much harder time at understanding it.

Gettin' back on track
I thought the song was hilarious, but then I started reading the comments. You guys have all missed the point.

First of all, nobody is preaching or shoving any faith anywhere in this video. It's an insider poking fun at the flawed philiosophies that a lot of Christians hold. It's this guy's way of saying to Christians, "Hey, you idiots. Talking about the bible doesn't make you a good person."

Do you acidentally take this video seriously? It's intentionally ironic. The video itself is poor, but it's validated by its humour. The song's lyrics are clever and well-written; it's a high-quality parody. You can't dis it on that front; it doesn't try to be pro, it's just making a joke, and a statement through that.

The reason it's funny is because through irony, it is speaking the truth, and it's a truth that even the christian-haters can identify with: Your bible doesn't win you anything, and it's lame to pretend it does.

Get with the program, have a laugh at a well-done amateur pardoy, and don't get your shirt in a knot just because somebody nearby mentioned the Bible.

Re: Baby Got Book
Frankly, I didn't find this retarded video funny at all. It was a pathetic reminder of just how intensely stupid and childishly neanderthal most so-called "Christians" are. What the hell is the purpose of this video?? To show that Christians can be "with it"?? To show that they're "down with the kids"?? This is a frightening demonstration of both how mind-bogglingly idiotic and profoundly out-of-touch religious fanatics truly are with the real world.
If this tripe is supposed to draw people into the Christian belief system, someone somewhere is guilty of a grievous tactical miscalculation, because this video only further reinforced my reflexive tendency to run screaming from Christians at the mere MENTION of religion. Nice job, you nitwits. Keep it up. If you keep trying hard enough, eventually you can alienate every sane, intelligent person on the planet!! What do you think of that?
If this horsesh*t is supposed to convince me there's a god, well then! you've TOTALLY blown your case, my friends. Good luck with your future proselytizations- just stay away from me...

yeah, sure it is- whatever, man.The only joke here is that religious nutcakes actually believe crap like this is going to "save" someone's "soul"."Christian" pop music: the religious equivalent to margarine, fat-free Twinkies and Lite beer...

As a Christian myself, I'm appalled by this "parody". Mainly because I'm of the school of "Read the Bible, don't thump it"...

Then again, I can't stand most Christian music/programming myself. It's basically a B-, C-, and D-rate substitute for non-Christian stuff, and then you slap an "I *heart* Jesus" bumper sticker on it.

Further things that make me want to leave my church.

I hope nobody hates me for saying such things, but I do not care. This is my opinion, right?

Re: Baby Got Book
Reading these comments makes me very sad. As for the "shoving religion down your throat" thing, thats what they're supposed to do. Dont you think that if you knew the world was in serious trouble, you'd try to tell you're friends how to save themselves? Or would you let them die because "Far be it for me to tell them what they're doing could potentially bring them to their demise.. I wouldnt want them to think I was being "preachy".."

Tolerance..HA! No one's being tolerant at all...You think that religious people have no tolerance.. yet you cant tolerate them. Call them stupid for practicing what they believe, but call them hypocrites when they do anything slightly to the contrary.

This man's motive for this particularl video was not to convert people to christianity, but rather, to encourage christians to read their bible, and not be shy about it.

It amazes me to see that people who KNEW, when they first clicked on the video, that they didnt believe in christianity. And yet they just mindlessly insulted christians, without much of a basis except for the fact that my day might "be a little grimmer". Well you're right. it will be. but not because your cleverly*cough* thought up insults..

Re: Baby Got Book
Oh for f*ck's sake: you so-called "Christian" nincompoops have been predicting the end of the f**king world for over 2,000 years now, and IT STILL HASN'T HAPPENED. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE DAMN COFFEE. There IS no imminent Apocalypse, there is no AntiChrist, there's not going to be a Rapture, and the world isn't going to end anytime in the near future. There is no Lake of Fire, no Devil, no Hell. While we're at it, there is no Santa Claus, no Easter Bunny, no Yeti, no Loch Ness Monster and no Abominable Snowman either. There are no fairies, no elves and no Wicked Witch of the West. THERE IS NO GOD. When you die, THERE IS NO AFTERLIFE, just the cessation of consciousness. Deal with it already.

Stop trying to scare the rest of us with your bullsh*t tales of impending doom and your inhumane religious terroristic propaganda. I refuse to live out my life in fear of a vicious fictional god who wants to punish me and burn me alive simply for having been born, a state of existence which I never chose in the first place. Life is difficult enough without making up nonsensical religious propaganda that just confuses real issues and inhibits choice.

Re: Baby Got Book
I don't recall predicting the end of the world at any point in my life... the Bible says we don't know.

I don't know what God people have been telling you about, but mine is not vicious or fictional, and his will is definitely not to punish me for having been born.

How does being a Christian inhibit choice? In my opinion, Christianity is true freedom.

Re: Baby Got Book
i think everyone here should really ease up.

to the atheists, stop trying to convert the christians to atheism and putting down their beliefs as "dumb, moronic, nincompoopic" because it is shoving Your religion down Their throat in a forceful, unpleasant manner thats only going to be useless.
maybe understand their beliefs a bit better before painting them all as scary fascist crazies that preach armageddon. cause isn't that a bit intolerant?
(just to clarify in case anyone wants to take argument with the second sentence, i do not mean literally convert to atheism)

Who ever converted anyone from a freaking argument.

to the christians. if you were trying to preach, maybe here isn't the time and place even though i didnt feel very much bible bashing. just remember, most of them won't listen, so write your words carefully thinking of how they are going to receive it.

if baby got book was a song about the Hindu holy book the Vedas or the Muslim holy book the Qu'ran, would there be this much negativity? doubtful because it would be "politically incorrect" to persecute someone elses religion, especially a minority religion that Christianity is increasingly becoming in north america.
ironically eh?

so ease up, take the video as it was meant to be, a form of freedom of expression that dan smith is entitled to. would you rather your 6 year old nephew watched that or a video talking about sex, drugs, cannibalism and murder?
so unless it inflicts something cruel and unusual onto you, like making you against your will take up a bible hug it and march yourself to the closest alpha program and get baptized because of its "shove the Bible down the throat and like it" attitude, i say again, ease up.

Re: Baby Got Book
the real issue with your case is the "Christians" you have been in contact with. No real christian will tell you of a vicious god that wants to punish you or burn you alive. a Real "Christian" will tell you of a savior who came to earth and lived sinless only to be crucified and killed for doing no more than simply loving sinners like myself, you, and anyone else. From your comments, it is obvious you are harboring some painfeel feelings. Jesus Christ would love no more than to help you with those things, and give you the peace of mind that can only be found in salvation through him. He doesn't force anything on you, he offers and you have the right to accept or deny.

Seriouosly people
C'mon guys, seriously. Nobody is shoving their religion in your face. This was created by a Christian for fun and to promote reading the Bible. And I definitely didn't get that guys reading the Bible would get more girls and cuter girls. In it he talked about wanting a girl that read her Bible too. Which I completely reciprocate. It may be corny, but it's expressive and fun and he has every right to express his Christianity. Saying that is showing your Christianity shouldn't be allowed is the same as saying MTV shouldn't be on TV, because most of the videos promote non-Christiann things, which could be construed as atheism, which initself is a type of religion, where basically you're your own god! Also, really I suppose you will call it close-minded, but how could you choose not to have a god, even if it's not the God of Israel. TI just can't see shoosing not to when there's a 50:50 chance that there is an after-life, and therefore a hell. So, wouldn't you rather take a chance on God and go to Heaven then take the chance that there's not a God andgo to Hell. the first definitely sounds better to me!!!!;)
I'll take my chances on the good life.

I thought it was pretty clear what the purpose if this video was before i clicked it...did you?? whine whine whine.. why don't you try to promote some alternatives to teaching morals instead?

the last word
the Bible is an interesting book. However, Christianity in entertainment form will always fall flat to those with discerning tastes. Like this video, many Christian forms of entertainment are just too freaking corny and unsophisticated to be cool. My comments aren't about hating on Christianity. This video would be corny if it were about Qurans or Torahs as well. Its just lame, (and a long video as well; a long and lame video). I think for a lot of people its just really easy to make fun of Christians who think this kind of thing is funny because you don't realize how nerdy you are in admitting that. In a way, its kind of cute. I don't mean to belittle. To the point, I comment because I feel like, in my own little way, I get to judge popular culture when I visit M&C. My vote is that religious entertainment is a blemish on popular culture. Its fun for a small group of pus-pushing weirdos but an eyesore on the face of beauty for the rest of us.

Re: the last word
I really don't think you are right. You should really watch the Passion movie that Mel Gibson made. It wasn't a blemish. It was pretty deep. I know non-believers that went and seen it and said it made them think. You know a lot of people don't look at the whole picture, someone (Jesus) died for all of man kind so that they could be saved. Even the chosen people (Jews) don't believe that Jesus was Gods son, but they do believe the Jesus in the bible did walk on earth and what happend to Him really happend. Now don't you find that ironic. If God didn't give us free will then there would be no purpose in life. We would strive for nothing because we would have nothing to strive for. It would be like taking a good job for minimum wage and staying there for the rest of your life and still make minimum wage. Its not like that at all I don't know about you but when I get a good job I work hard to get raises and promotions because I know in the end its going to pay off. Just like christianity I work hard to please Jesus because in the end it will pay off. But you have free will to not believe the choice is up to you. I pray that people make the right choice. I don't know of any person that would endure what Jesus did and not step up and say He was not really Gods son. they would cry like a baby and fess up. Not Jesus because He was real. And all that beating and no broken bones, amazing. My God

Not so bad after all
As you might expect, I saw a clip of this on "The Daily Buzz", a Fox network show, and thought it was pretty funny. It's obviously a video made on the church's audio and video system, and neither the lyrics or quality are anything to write home about, but here's the point.

To see this you HAD to look up "Baby Got Book" someplace, so you went on an active search knowing what you were going to see and then have the rudeness to flame the people about their little video. Look, if you don't want to see it, or think the Christians are taking over the world (And a nice job they're doing of it in the Middle East,) get a life. Watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force or go to Portal of Evil to complain about it.

Sheesh.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this video is directed toward Christian men to encourage them to search for mature Christian women, not toward atheists or other non-Christians to 'shove their religion in their faces'.

Re: Baby Got Book
I watched this vid long time ago and i truly liked..not just for the point of it..but the creativity of it.

and for those other comments this is my reply

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."

I'm whispering "I was lost,

Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I don't speak of this with pride.

I'm confessing that I stumble

and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not trying to be strong.

I'm professing that I'm weak

And need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not bragging of success.

I'm admitting I have failed

And need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible

But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I still feel the sting of pain.

I have my share of heartaches

So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not holier than thou,

I'm just a simple sinner

Who received God's good grace, somehow!
