I say this live last night. It was all very sad, scary (?), and funny. It's not very clear in this clip, but the guitarists have little smirks on their faces. Lorne Michaels runs a tight ship.

You're on crack. It was entirely the band's fault. First, the drummer pushed the wrong button and started the wrong recording. Then the rest of the band joined in, even though it was obviously the wrong song.
Bad on Ashlee for lip-synching, but the mistake wasn't her fault. The band should have stopped playing right away, and started the other song. That's the only way to recover from a mistake like that, and the band blew it. There's nothing Ashlee could have done about it.

Wow... you are an idiot. Since when is it up to the drummer to control the sound board? SNL has Engineers in the back controlling the sound, they wouldn't leave it up to the drummer.
And if you look and listen, the band isn't even PLAYING the beginning of it because it's on the tape, also. Then they quickly try to fix the problem, and that fucking idiot Ashlee starts dancing for some moronic reason while the band tries to save her ass.

Uh, yeah, actually it usually is the drummer who triggers pre-recorded tracks, if there are any. But you don't even know what a sound board is, so of course you wouldn't know that.
Just watch the clip... As soon as everyone realizes it's the wrong song, they all turn and look at who? At the drummer. And on a TV screen you can even see him looking at his laptop and shaking his head. And Ashlee's father confirmed that it was the drummer's fault.
In any case, it certainly wasn't Ashlee who started the track, so there's no reason other than pure childish spite to blame her for the wrong song being played. I hate being put in a position of defending her, but you really can't deny it.

It doesn't matter whose fault it was for the wrong track being triggered. That isn't what's memorable about the clip. What is going to be remembered is that Ashlee Simpson didn't immediately begin to sing "Pieces Of Me" to cover the gaffe.
As a result, not only did she not have the presence of mind to try to salvage the situation, but she also showed herself to be a bit of a fraud. Following the show, user comments on her offical website's forum were unsparing, with epithets such as "cheater", "liar", and "fraud" being hurled at her.
Personally, it didn't bother me too much to learn that she was lipsyncing because this unfortunate practice is so common among singers these days. What does bother me is that, at the end of the show, she didn't own up to the mistake. Instead, she laid the blame on her band by claiming that they played the wrong song... as if it was an actual live performance. That was a bit classless. What I don't understand is why nobody EVER admits that they screwed up. There's always an excuse and nobody is responsible for themselves anymore. I would respect her alot more if she just admitted what happened; but as always with people in the media its always deny deny deny.

Sorry, but this has been going on for thousands of years. It is not a new concept of any kind.
If you think it only occures in the media you should be more observant of your surroundings in everyday life. It is part of human behaviour, infact, it is a survival mechanism.

I dunno.. I've seen other people lip-sync on SNL. Outkast sure did it - I remember them purposely stop singing to clap with the song, while the rap kept going. Eminem did it too - when he performed with Dido. I'm sure others have done it as well, but manage to cover it up better. As for her being washed up now? I doubt it, she just went triple platinum.

I don't think the main problem was the lip-syncing. What seems to be bothering people the most is that she shifted the blame for the screwup onto her band, then made up a story about "severe acid reflux" causing her to lose her voice. Instead of coming clean, she just offered lame excuses (not to mention a really hokey jig! :-D) and some of her fans have become disillusioned.
