Christopher Reeve, the star of the 'Superman' movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, has died, his publicist said.
Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home and died Sunday, his publicist, Wesley Combs told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C.

Imagine how his wife must feel, Incredibly sad at her loss but at the same time, an enormous burden lifted off her shoulders. Talk about being torn in 2 directions.

Re: Christopher Reeve 1952 - 2004
Enormous burden? I hardly think so, I just read an article a few months ago about her and she never said he was a burden. Perhaps after the accident and for awhile it was difficult, but do you call the people you love a burden?

Re: Christopher Reeve 1952 - 2004
There's physical burdin and then there's emotional burdin. You can't say that there was likely no stress caused by the accident.

Re: Christopher Reeve 1952 - 2004
Still, no one is qualified to say he was a burden to his wife, exept herself, end of argument.

Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
Kind of ironic that superman was killed by a lousy bed sore, eh?
By: Freakyfred_3567
Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
Pressure sores can turn quite nasty especially when they turn ulcerated. The lack of blood supply to the area causes the tissue to die(necrotic).
These "sores" can become big enough to put your fist in as it eats it's way through the muscle tissue, infection only makes the matter worse..
It is sad that he died..but it may also be a blessing..

Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
Everyone dies.
Not everyone dies with thier heads held high. One thing that always impressed me about Reves is that he never blamed the horse.
The accident was something that happened and that he had to deal with. No more, no less.
He was an inspration because he took stomething that could've been the worst thing in his life and simply dealt with it.

You can't really blame animals for how they behave because we can't really communicate with them. How can you blame a dog for soiling the small braided rug near the door?

Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
The thing that kills me is that Hollywood will make crappy shows like Smallville with terrible actors and try to live off of the Superman legacy. Smallville has such idiotic followers(most of them teen age followers who never understood the original legacy) but they never realized that the show was made as a money sucking culture-rape that capitalized on the lemming like mentality of kids who wanted to be a part of something they grew up way too late to enjoy. Originality is something that modern viewers put aside so that they can cling to the latest Hip television experience.

Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
Comments like that just prove you've never watched an entire episode and see that Smallville is not a ripoff.
Did you forget to mention the lame superboy series some years back? Howabout the goofy Lois & Clark? Don't forget the George Reeves Superman TV series especially.

Re: Christopher Reeve: 1952-2004
Smallville is one of the few shows I can't miss, and it can't be pidgeon holed with all the other teen dramas. it fills a gap that xfiles left behind with the 'freak of the week' and a very attentive approach to the mythos of superman's origin, which any fanboy could appreciate all the nods to future events. there is a necessary editorial rewrite with the story taking place in current day, but this is not without precedent in the DC universe which is notorious for breaking their own continuity. the show should be seen on it's own merit and money sucking culture-rape isn't fully accurate portrayl as the show has very little merchandise, a few direct market ( read: comic book store, not toysrus ) action figures, probably some novels and mouse pads, but I'm not really inundated with smallville merchandise. my biggest beef with the show is the show intro... 'now for a ~fresh~ smallville ' god that is annoying, almost as bad as the enterprise theme song

Just let him be, man. If sitting around posting hundreds of negative comments makes him happy, or feel better about himself, just let him do it. There's nothing we can do and needless bickering won't accomplish anything.
