The vast majority of those moves are based on Kung Fu wu shu techniques.
The "throat point," the joint locking of the hand, the kicks on the ground (albeit in a slightly more controlled, dignified way), etc.
And the part that convinced me that they've all taken this from Kung Fu was the way mr. Handlebars defended himself from the incoming knee. Holding your arm at a right angle one fist length away from the body is precisely how you're taught to be attacked during practice.
