McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
McCain stumped when asked about insurance being forced to cover Viagra but not being forced to cover birth control.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
a) That's not a very relevant question to ask a presidential candidate.
b) Holy shit! His reaction is still priceless!

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
McCain's stance on birth control is totally relevant. Even as a senator, he voted on it- should he be elected, the importance of his opinion is going to be magnified.
But yeah, his reaction is pretty awesome. I wonder when was the last time the word "penis" came out of his mouth?

I haven't squirmed like that since junior high school sex education class.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
seems like a perfectly relevent question. It's a follow up to comments made by one of McCain's top advisors.
That being said, it has a simple answer, birth control is something that falls outside of the insurance company business model and viagra is not. Birth control doesn't help fix something that isn't working. If you want the price of birth control to go down, subsidies are where you should turn to, not forcing insurance companies to cover it.

Okay, I didn't know the context. Makes more sense now.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
He can't recall huh, I wonder how many times we'll hear that expression if he gets elected. Typical Reaganist stonewalling. Birth control should be covered because of the public health implications. Viagra, I mean, fine I suppose it should be covered, even if the problems it solves have far less relevance to the country as a whole.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
We've already heard it at least a dozen times just during his campaign. He's contradicted himself more times than I can count, and it's all documented on YouTube, FactCheck.org and loads of other places.
The guy is either too damn old to remember anything he says or does, OR he's just a liar. Either one is pretty damn bad and makes him a horrible candidate.

Informed opinion? Whatever. Has anyone ever checked your brain, by the way? H2O has more intelligence that that soupy matter sloshing around in your skull.

Blech! In my haste to post that comment, a typo slipped through. Oh well; I bet Shakespeare wasn't perfect, either.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
Shakespeare DEFINITELY wasn't perfect. In fact, The Bard couldn't even spell his own name the same way 3 times in a row.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
Yeah. That reminds me, did you know that Shakespeare's favorite way to spell his name was Shaken, Not Speared?

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
I despise McCain and Obama. Regarding this specific question: Based on this video (and this video alone), it isn't clear to me how the Senator could be expected to have an answer ready for that question. He should be given some credit for not launching into some bull-shit monologue on the subject. Also, people should realize that most Senators don't even read the legislation that they vote on (The Patriot Act is a famous example of this). I think when McCain says that he needs to "get back to her" on this issue, he's just being honest (for a change!).

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
I think you need to watch it again. She asks. "Is that still your position?" It's a simple yes or no. He refuses to answer. He won't speak up about his opinion on whether it's right or wrong.
The straight talk express seems to be stuck in neutral lately.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
"I don't know enough about it to give you an informed answer because I don't recall the vote ... I don't usually duck an issue, but I'll try to get back to you."
Seems pretty clear. Maybe he's lying, I don't know.
Personally, the fact that gov't is involved in a matter of this kind is repugnant to me. I have a question. Why have Viagra and birth control been pitted against each other here? What's the connection there? Seems like apples and oranges. Erectile dysfunction is a health problem. Fertility isn't.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
The thing is, he says that constantly - the "I don't know right now but I'll get back to you." It's his catch-phrase for getting out of any question he doesn't want to answer, and he uses it often.

Try saying that again after your daughter gets knocked up.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
Now, I don't think it's the issue I'm going to vote on, but here's what the whole "Viagra and birth control issue" is for me. When it was "impotence," and a part of getting old, it wasn't a big deal for men to not get a boner. Tough shit--you're old. Your dick'll get soft (your balls'll droop, too--ew), her pussy'll get dry (and loose--yuck). That's what happens to old folks. It ain't sexy to most. But today, men's penises are big business and there's a business model that covers them no matter what age they are--because it's "erectile dysfunction," not impotence, and that's covered by health plans. Women don't have a pharmaceutical word that covers what they have always been paying for, and by that I mean not ovulating and preventing pregnancy. Why not? Yeah, you can say that women's bodies aren't broken to begin with, but is a 70-year-old man more broken now (in 2008) than before (1958)? I don't think so--he's just been given a new word by Pfizer that is covered by whatever plan he's got. Some plans pay for birth control, some don't. Some pay for some kinds. I don't think having sex is a need any more than preventing pregnancy is a need. Quality of life, yes, definitely.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
I'm glad someone brought up the fact that women often get screwed over when it comes to legislation regarding sexual health and sexuality. I just read in a book today that in some states it is illegal to purchase a vibrator. Seriously. When has the legality of Playboy or other male masturbation aids ever been questioned? Sorry for being a bit off topic, but I think this video is a bit of evidence for the larger issue present in our country. No problem for old men who want to continue their sex lives, but if you're a woman who also wants a quality sex life without the threat of pregnancy, you're on your own I suppose.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
Actually, in retrospect I don't think this particular issue is an exclusively female issue (although I still don't deny sexist attitudes in sexual health legislation), however I still believe that it's rediculously hypocritical to condone sex in one context, but not in another. It's all part of the fucked up political mindset- it's ok for old dudes to fuck (probably because most politicians fit this category), but if you ever consider messing with the God-ordained process of conception, you better not be spending government money on it.

Re: McCain Stumped when Asked about Viagra
This guy cannot give a straight answer! It is apparent that every question he fields he tries to think of the most universal way to answer it so as to not alienate any of his voters. He is a disgusting product of the voting system.
