It's not about immunity to help the telecoms. If that's all this debate was about, the White House would let 'em hang.
Rather the continued effort by the White House is to hide the fact that they have been spying on US Citizens since *before 9/11.* And the White House wants to hide their illegal, Unconstitutional acts. So by giving "immunity" to the Telecoms, they are simply hiding their crimes.
This is much, much worse than Watergate. If it were 1974, Bush, Cheney, et al would have long been impeached.
And yet we continue to pay for these crimes with our tax dollars...

Yeah, the prime motivation behind tort immunity for telecoms is to block any discovery subpoenas that would arise in all those lawsiuts.
