A Bridge Too Far - Nijmegen Bridge
From Richard Attenborough's 1977 WWII epic about Montgomery's failed Operation Market-Garden in the fall of 1944.

What's the best way of taking a bridge? Attack both sides at once!

Re: A Bridge Too Far - Nijmegen Bridge
If you haven't already, you gotta check out this film, if possible on a large screen, as the scope is truly epic. Also, the casting is insane! Check it out - Sean Connery, Dirk Bogarde, Maximilian Schell, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Caine, Gene Hackman, Edward Fox, Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Lawrence Olivier, Liv Ullman, James Caan, Elliot Gould, Denholm Elliot.

With a running time of over three hours, some people have complained that A Bridge Too Far is too long. Nonsense, I say, how can three hours be enough of a good thing? Maybe the actual point of contention is that it's about an Allied fiasco, which is to say, does not end on a happy note for brit or gringo audiences, so it feels long this way. Well I've never thought much of jingoistic mongering, less so when it's driven home with a sledgehammer.

I saw it years ago. It's a very good film.
