More gratuitous blasphemy from Pat Condell.

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
One of my favorite Pat rants so far. Still looking for a Condell for Prez T-shirt, let me know if you see one.

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
He's British, so 'Condell for Prime Minister' would be what you are looking for.
But yes, this is one of Pat's best rants.

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
This is the first of his clips i've watched. Could we get a less grim and scary thumbnail of him? I think I avoided these in the past just because it looked like some grumpy old fart on the headline.

If you find a better picture, I'll add it. I looked all over but this is the best I could come up with. ;)

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
I'm not interested in hearing sarcastic insults against organized religion. I'd much rather hear a respectful argument against its case, not just blatant rudeness.

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
Is that supposed to be my respectful argument? I mean it's funny, and it makes Christianity sound ridiculous, but it certainly doesn't prove anything, you know? That's all Pat Condell is to me, minus the funny. He just says that Christianity is stupid over and over again, without really explaining why.
...Just like me to get all opinionated over a joke.
By the way, how was she a rib-woman?

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
It's not unfair for you to ask for a reasonable and respectful argument against Christianity, Hadman. It's just that those already aware of the reasonable argument and are not motivated to change anything are most often those who subscribe to Christianity or otherwise benefit from its perpetuation. Those aware of the reasonable argument and who are willing to change things are already doing so. Therefore, the only message that needs to be sent is one of open hostility, that having one's religious beliefs pushed on individuals or otherwise pushed through public policy (and given tax-exempt status when none is warranted) is unwelcome; and this message needs to be delivered to the only group whose beliefs are principally swayed by emotion: religionists.

"I'm not interested in hearing sarcastic insults against organized religion. I'd much rather hear a respectful argument against its case, not just blatant rudeness."
Oh, don't be such a weenie. "Blatant rudeness" is very appropriate when responding to 'most' organized religions. The world suffers every day because of the intolerance and ridiculousness that comes from their idiot beliefs. We have people in the West Bank willing to kill each other over land that they believe God has promised them; endless zealot suicide bombings of innocent bystanders; intolerance of homosexuals; assholes like the Pope telling poor Africans they cannot use contraception to avoid getting pregnant or transmitting disease... and the list goes on. So, the complaint that anti-theists are being too frank about how they think and feel about religion in today's world is absolute bull shit.
I don't give a tinker's cuss what anyone believes spiritually. In fact, I think much of it is quite fascinating and - in some cases - beautiful. The human imagination is a wonderful thing.
I have no right to prevent anyone from having their own ideas of the great unknown. However, if those ideas are spread to large groups of people and become doctrine that is forced on others who do not share those beliefs then I do have a problem. That is when I become irate and my need to verbally, or literally, vent my frustrations becomes quite important.
I'd never walk into a church and say that I thought everyone there was delusional (though I certainly think it). But, I have no problem letting folks know how I feel if the environment is appropriate. This is why the internet is such a great soap box. As Pat Condell knows, it's a healthy format for voicing your non-violent opinions and ideas. People can listen, question or go somewhere else if they don't like it.
Nothing Pat has ever said to date is inappropriate. There is plenty of evidence to support his disgust and condemnation of organized faith. Not everyone may agree with his fiery contempt, but some do. Some appreciate his frankness because it is so fucking honest. Why bother with the pleasantries? This is not a place to walk on eggshells like a bunch of overly cautious pussies. If someone happens to be offended by something that was said - then tough shit for them. Life will continue and no one must change their wackjob beliefs if they don't want to.
So, people can save their complaints for the sticks and stones.
(btw I hear the Bible has lots of stone throwing)

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
Thank you and I agree.
Over the last year or so that I've posted on M&C I have made a few rather apt comments. This happens to be one. See, the thing is, I hate seeing posts by these mindless sissies that have chosen to adopt this pathetic ideal that brutal honesty is wrong (Pat Condell always draws these wimps out). That being blunt to the point of borderline cruelty is somehow a sin. Well, I'll tell ya it fuckin' ain't. Good friends - folks who actually give a damn - will always be the ones to tell you how it REALLY is. They won't hand you any shit sandwiches. They won't play the sweet and, ultimately, condescending approach because they have enough RESPECT for you and your intelligence.
Besides, being too nice to people is lame. It demonstrates a weakness of character - and I absolutely hate that sort of shit. So, be a man and speak your mind or jolly well piss off!

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
I'm going to say I stand corrected here, although I'm pretty sure I'm not a mindless sissy.
I guess what I should have said was that I personally don't like Condell's rants because they prove nothing to me, and generally show me nothing new. I don't have a problem with him being rude, it just doesn't impress me.
I'm not offended by Condell, and I agree that anyone who is should just keep on walking. I doubt that any of them can say they never enjoyed something that others perceived to be "rude."

Re: Pat Condell: God is Not Enough
No, you are not a mindless sissy. I failed to to mention that my insult was directed at a broader target: the typical 'I think Pat Condell is a jerk because he disses the faithful' type. Your comment did not warrant all of my venom. Sorry, I have a stupid habit of mixing the specific with the general from time to time. I blame it on my rushed writing process.
Btw, why do you think Condell must "prove" something? Why should he be expected to point out the obvious; especially, when so many before him have already do so. Why can't the old fart just take a piss at religion? It's fun, and he does it so well. I'll admit that his insults are not in the same league as celebrity comedy roasts or Triumph the insult comic dog... but they do have some punch.
Ok, I will admit that you're being a little bit of a sissy about that.
