Considering that the material (from a DH Lawrence novel) and the way it's directed (in a dry, detached manner) are both top-notch, it's almost as if it were a Stanley Kubrick film, coupled with many bizarre elements that can be regarded as the source of Peter Greenaway's style, and that's just about the highest compliment that any movie can get from me.
All in all, even in an era when major studios were taking considerable risks (Easy Rider, Midnight Cowboy, etc), Women In Love was ahead of its' time, an incredibly ballsy piece of work that never flinches.

I used to wrestle in high school, but it was never quite like this. For one thing, the gym's fireplace was much much smaller. For another thing we always hit the shower after a match....
