Dane Cook (Ike Barenholtz) does a set for MADtv, but a heckler makes it difficult for him... so hard that he decides to give up stand-up.

Kinda sorta happened to me as Jackie Martling was making a big deal about my date's boobs. I was more than half lit and I really don't remember what I said back to him, but the crowd loved it. He got a little flustered and asked me if I wanted to get on stage. I told him back that the audience seemed to be laughing at my jokes more than they were his. But I then shrunk back into my turtle shell and let him contninue his act. He's a very funny guy and I felt pretty badly about it all afterwards.

Finally someone who agrees with me. Why does everyone I know seem to think he's so funny? I cant remember the time I last watched a full dvd of a comedian and didnt laugh once, except for dane cook.

Almost all of us who appreciate ACTUAL WIT agree with you. The same people who think he's funny find the dad getting hit in the crotch on AFV funny. The same people find something gross happening on American Pie funny. It's shock humor, and nothing more. It's funny because it's "extreme." Bah.

The only thing "extreme" about Dane Cook's comedy is his body gesturing. The guy makes a big cartoony face and that's supposed to be the fuckin' joke. That's only funny at drunk & stupid frat parties. Where every douche is trying to be the loudest, craziest party guy in da house. "Hey, it's spring break and where is that camera, brah!?! YEEE-YAY Waz UP! HEY LADIES. Woo-alright!"

Now hold on just a minute. Guys getting hit in the crotch, that's funny. Sometimes gross stuff can be funny. You can have ACTUAL WIT and still appreciate some physical comedy.
Dane Cook was never funny in any sense, but don't let him represent a whole genre of funny stuff.

After contemplation, here's what I've determined:
Dane Cook is:
a great *story teller*
yet not a comedian.
He can relate a tale in a fun, energetic, quasi-humorous manner, but at the end of the day, it's just a story and not pure comedy.
So, if you change your viewpoint to see him as an *entertainer*, you'll find him much more tolerable.

I believe Dane Cook is so successful because he talks AS IF he is saying something funny. Thus, he will get laughs whether or not what he is saying actually is funny...

Oh wow! I WAS going to post something about me being the only person I know who thinks this dude is NOT funny. But I see I'm not the only one. I personally think I'm funnier than Dane Cook. I put Dane Cook in the same group as I put "Family Guy". But Family Guy has actually made me laugh twice. I don't rememeber ever laughing at/with Dane Cook. P.S. MadTV is absolutly horrible. I want Comedy Central to stop fucking airing MadTV for 4 hrs. mid day and run something funny? Maybe Dr. Katz reruns or Reno911. Please? Thank you. [/rant]

I sat through part of Dane Cook's cable special completely dumbfounded as to why anybody in the audience was laughing. I finally concluded that the chicks in the audience were laughing because they all think Dance Cook is cute, and they guys were laughing because they wanted to please the chicks so they could bang them later in the evening.
