Re: Sir David Attenborough on God
So it's more wonderful to think that this is all a huge accident then it is to know that there is a God who is all knowing and is in complete control and has the power within himself to create absolute beauty?
What a waste of this 'beautiful accident' after you realize the cruelity that the world gives you 80 years to live to see it all and then you pass into nothing.
What if you could live forever in a paradise that makes this one seem miniscule?
He never mentions that our limitations make this wonderful world seem less then miraculous.

Re: Sir David Attenborough on God
The mere fact you feel good thinking you will live forever does not in any way make it true.
Wishful thinking is a poor substitute for reason.

Re: What if you could live forever in a paradise...
Isn't there enough to do on the 700 Club website?
"God, are you there? Hey, what's up with Dafur? That's not so beautiful right now." The explanations of god's part in the world's beauty is always sweet and poetic, but I never hear any good explanations for the atrocities. "God heard and answered your prayers li'l Rwandans... he just said, 'no'." Awww.
I tend to default to the all encompassing explanations that make sense. Feel free to continue testifying... just know that the triteness of these intrusive god-centered explanations win no converts and do little more than fuel the thinking person's atheism.
As for paradise... I have enough trouble occupying my time during the 24 hour day (maybe you do too?). What possible use could we have for an eternity? The 80 years we get is only a waste if we continue to waste it.

Re: Sir David Attenborough on God
it is. all of this just happened, it wasn't anyone's conscious intent that we know of. how lucky are we to be able to comprehend the complexity out of essentially nothingness in just a blink of the geological eye?
what if the universe outside of humanity is made of pure love and you have a permanent amphetamine orgasm peak every moment after death? some old guy wrote it in a different language during an era where they tortured people for masturbating, I bet it's totally true. 100%. uh huh.

Re: Sir David Attenborough on God
Oooh I love this argument.
My life cannot be made better by believing in a super-natural being for a fairly simple reason : I was not concious before I was born so how arrogant must I be to believe that I will be once this earthly life has dismissed me?
I'm a lot happier with the thought of being turned into worm-food and continuing the chain of life that ultimately puts food on our childrens to tables.
It might not be the most appetising of thoughts for those religiously endowed but let's face it... It gives me the drive to educate my children in the realities of current existence, altruism and kidness where possible, truth and honesty etc..
We're all star-dust anyway - you didn't think that your molecular make-up wouldn't be recycled did you?
Your legacy to the world is your offspring - make them the best you can and sleep well when your lights dim ;)

Re: Sir David Attenborough on God
I believe that in a sense,we are all God.Quantum physics talks about consciousness bringing "reality" into being.Things do not in any real sense exist until we observe them and bring them into being.Consciousness is the Universe becoming aware of itself.
